The Icelandic sheep is a unique species because the strain has remained isolated over the centuries. At the same time, its wool is unique and there is no comparable wool in the world. Nature is highly regarded throughout the entire wool production process. Only natural sources such as geothermal energy and water vapor are used as energy sources in the production of Icelandic wool, but the sheep itself, which produces the wool, is free to graze in the summer and feed on grass that grows on pristine land.
The Icelandic wool quality mark on products confirms that the product is made from genuine Icelandic wool. We at Yarm are proud to use only selected Icelandic wool in our products.
Thick yarn, which is characteristic of Yarm, is meticulously hand-knotted before it is hand-knit by knitting-free methods. This great craftsmanship behind each product gives your product its distinctive character.
Production and Design
Icelanders have spun yarn from the Icelandic sheep's wool for centuries. Is it a fact that Iceland would have been inhabited without it. We at Yarm are proud to use only Icelandic wool in our products. Erla Svava Sigurðardóttir, founder and principal designer of Yarm, has for years developed these ancient spinning methods and mixed them with the spinning methods of other nations. A thick and especially durable yarn will be made from it, which will later be hand-knit by knitting-free methods (arm knitting). This combination of ancient and new production methods gives the Yarm products this familiar yet at the same time innovative look that has gained great popularity.
